Wait five minutes and it might change...

Thursdays are my busy, running around doing errands, shopping, library, etc. days. What made my morning today interesting was the weather. When I dropped the kids off at school shortly after 7:30 this morning there was a low cloud - kind of foggy, but not too bad. (The kids had wanted to walk to school in honor of earth day, but we were running late, and it didn't happen.) A little over an hour later, Peter and I (mostly I) had straightened up the house, collected the library books, made a shopping list and headed out the door to go to the library. By this time, it was definitely foggy. I could see headlights come out of the white gloom as cars approached, and it took a while before floating red or green dots became apparent as I neared intersections. It's a good thing I knew where I was going, because I couldn't see street signs at all until I reached each intersection. We arrived at the library only a minute before it opened at 9, which I think is a great time to be the

Sewing Project

Okay, it's been over a week since I last wrote. What can I say? Life gets busy. What's sad is that I don't really remember most of what has kept me so busy. But I do remember one thing: Last week I felt like sewing. The project spread out over the sewing table is Hannah's Easter dress, which hasn't been finished yet... because Hannah doesn't want me to finish it for her, and she doesn't have the time or the patience to really keep at it. But I felt like sewing. I didn't want to start another quilt, considering that the last one I started hasn't been quilted yet since I haven't figured out how I will do it and get the result I want yet. So I decided I would sew myself some shirts. I made three long sleeved shirts a couple years ago, and I really like them because they are long enough that I don't have to worry about them riding up or getting a gap when I bend over.  The majority of my short sleeve shirts are store bought, and unfortunately,

It's Good to be Home

I'm a homebody. There's no question about it. I love days when I can sit at home all day, barefoot... reading a book or whatever. I don't enjoy days when my days are structured by where I have to be at specific times. Yesterday was one of those days. 7:30 I took kids to school. Usually I just drop them off and come right back home, but yesterday I parked and went in to the main office to register Peter for kindergarten. It's amazing to me that my baby is old enough to be starting kindergarten in the fall! John had a stomach ache in the morning and wasn't feeling well, but insisted on going to school... I guess he wasn't sick enough to face having to stay in bed all day. I worried about him though, so when I returned home, I called a friend of mine and asked if she would be available to pick up John from the school if he was sick and I wasn't able to get him. She was home with a sick child (Hannah's age) of her own, but she would be able to get John i

Funiculi Funicula

I love it when I hear a song on Classical Radio that I recognize. There are several pieces of music that I am familiar with: Beethoven's fifth and third symphonies and Fur Elise, Mozart's Minuet in G (you know, the one they were trying to play in the Music Man.), Bach's Sheep May Safely Graze and Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring, Copeland's Appalachian Spring, Musorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, Rimsky-Korsakov's The Flight of the Bumblebee, Pachelbel's Canon in D, Debussy's Clair de Lune... and the list goes on. I may not always be able to come up with the name or the composer, but it's nice when I hear a song that I recognize. Last Thursday as we were driving to the library, I heard a song that I recognized. I'm positive that it was the first time I ever heard that particular song on the radio... maybe they only played it because it was April Fool's day, but for whatever reason, they played it. I listened to it for a minute, then asked P

Easter 2010

Hannah holding the eggs she decorated Easter. It has its own traditions, food, and fun. Friday night we covered the table in newspaper, filled cups with boiling water, vinegar and food coloring and set out 18 hard boiled eggs. The fun followed. Peter had fun telling me which cup to put his eggs in... and they were dipped in one cup after another until they had been in every cup almost, and were a mottled purplish color. Joshua also enjoyed moving his eggs from one cup to another. John created a bunny rabbit complete with pipe cleaner ears, but was devastated when it cracked. Hannah probably spent the most time on her eggs, dipping them in multiple colors bit by bit resulting in stripes. Sunday morning the kids awoke, and waited impatiently for their parents to wake and let them at the eggs hidden in the living room. Several of the eggs were in the middle of the floor, apparently batted there by the cats. Still, there were several well hidden for the kids to search out. Breakfast
