A Talk about Gratitude

I recently told my bishop that I enjoyed giving talks in Sacrament Meeting, and it is true. I didn't expect, however, that I would get an email from a bishopric member on Thursday last week to say that his talks for Sunday had to leave town, and would I be willing to speak? Here is the talk that I gave on Sunday, May 27th, 2012: For my topic today, I was given a talk which was given by President Monson in 1992, entitled “An Attitude of Gratitude”. In his talk President Monson begins by telling the story of the 10 lepers. I would like to share it with you. In Luke 17 we read: And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: And they lifted up their voices, and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” And when he saw them, he said unto them, “Go show yourselves unto the priests.” And it came to pass, that, as they went,

Hannah's Haircut

For a long time now, Hannah has wanted to donate her hair to Locks of Love. She was waiting for it to grow out long enough, and then a couple days ago, she told me she wanted a pixie cut, like her Aunt Heidi. So, yesterday we cut her hair. It is different, but very cute! Before After

End of the School Year Events

Image
Today is the kids' last day of school for the 2011-2012 school year. This means that our days have been filled with end of the year activities. A couple weeks ago, we attended Hannah's orchestra concert and were amazed at how great the 7th graders sounded, especially when compared with the 6th graders. A week ago, I got to accompany Joshua's class on a field trip to Dinosaur Ridge . It was fun, and I enjoyed seeing the fossils and learning about things I hadn't known before. John also went on a field trip to see a Colorado Rockies game last week. On Tuesday of this week, the boys had field day, which involved a lot of fun games, races, and activities. John and Josh had their games during the morning, and Peter had his in the afternoon, so I came and spent almost the entire school day watching. Thankfully, the weather was not as hot as I had thought it would be, and we had some cloud cover most of the day. I still got a touch of sunburn, in spite of the sun block I

What games did we play when we were young?

I read my sister's blog today, and in it, she mentioned some of the games we used to play when we were little. She mentioned pretending our beds were pirate ships, and pretending there were tiny people living in our backyard. This set me off on a trip down memory lane, thinking of the things we did when we were young. With this sister, I remember making homes for tiny people in some cement blocks in the side yard. I remember making up plays to the music of the Nutcracker. I remember trying to scare each other at night in the dark. I remember playing "secretary", using a lite bright and Lego constructions for computers. I remember celebrating our parents' anniversaries by making our own restaurant, and even making it a dinner theater, singing songs like "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head". I remember playing in the trees in front of our house - how one was her house, and the other was mine. I remember posting street signs around our driveway and riding our

The Hiatt Family's Personal Clue Game

Image
Some years ago, I created a Clue game page for the calendars that I make every year. It looked like this: A few years later I thought I would actually make the clue game, and so I designed the cards and the game board: Last week I finally printed it out so we could play the game, and we've played it several times since then. While we previously owned Clue Jr, we didn't have the real game, and I've been wanting to get it for a while, but our current financial situation hasn't allowed for it. Now we have the game, and I find it a lot more fun when we are moving ourselves around the game board! Click on this photo to get a close up!
