Of Bags and Satchels

Image
I recently crocheted myself a hand bag. I don't usually carry a purse, but sometimes it is convenient to have something to hold my purse and keys if I don't have a pocket. I finished it yesterday. Here it is: Joshua saw my bag, and decided that he wanted a satchel. (He has been watching Indiana Jones movies recently... Maybe he got the idea from that? I don't know. He wants something to hold a pocket knife in when he someday acquires a pocket knife...) He found some blue and white (self striping) yarn and asked me to make it out of that. When my own bag was done, I started crochetinghis, while listening to Hannah mockingly call it a "man purse" and Josh yelling at her, "It's a satchel !" This morning I remembered some suede-like fabric I bought a few years ago thinking I would use it for a vest... and never did. I asked Josh if he would mind if I made his satchel out of brown cloth instead, and he didn't seem to mind, so that's what I

Peter's Clock Joke

If a clock is wise, which way would it be going? Um, clockwise? Yeah. And if a clock was on the counter, which way would it be going? Counter clockwise? Actually, nowhere! It doesn't have feet!

Blue and Gold Banquet

Image
Last night was our Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet, which in our pack doesn't mean a full meal, but it does mean that each boy makes a "Dad and Lad" cake and brings it to share with everyone. The cakes brought are frequently quite elaborate, and this year included such things as giant Legos, a four story hotel, a motor cross track (complete with chocolate donut tires), a pokeball, and a basketball court, all made (supposedly) without female assistance.   Josh chose to make a "bear" cake since he is a bear scout. His and Steven's cake turned out really cute! We transported it safely to the church, where the pack meeting was held, and enjoyed the evening. Josh earned a geology belt loop, and the Webelos that Steven and I have been working with performed a puppet show and received their Readyman, Showman and Citizen pins. Our cake was not entirely eaten during the evening, but the ears, nose, and part of the head did disappear. When we got in the ca

Here's what I did today:  It is one of the roses that Steven gave me for Valentine's Day, drawn in Photoshop.

Snow

Image
Yesterday, church was cancelled due to heavy snow. I was kind of hoping school would be cancelled today, too, but it stopped snowing yesterday afternoon and today dawned bright and clear, the streets had been plowed over night, and this morning the district website said all schools were open. Steven got notice he could come in to work late, so he accompanied us on our trek to school this morning through the freshly fallen snow. Here are some pictures I took on our walk to school:       I would rather walk in this kind of weather than drive. Trudging through 12" deep snow gives me more exercise, and if I slip and slide while on foot, I find it a lot less scary than when the car I'm driving won't stop as I slide into traffic. The sun is still shining, the snow is already melting, and it is a beautiful day!

Reading Nook

Image
This picture has been my full time project for the last week or so. Drawing each book in perspective was a nightmare, but I think having a reading corner like this - with a big comfy chair, a light, and shelves full of great books - in my home would be heavenly.

Valentines Day

Image
My sweet husband brought home flowers the evening before Valentine's Day. He has also been supplying me with a few Kit Kat bars (definitely a favorite), appearing randomly on my dresser and nightstand at intervals. On Friday evening we left the kids at home and went to The Black Eyed Pea for dinner. I always love the food there! We enjoyed a delicious dinner, but unfortunately, we were too full to order dessert. We walked off some of our meal at WalMart, just enjoying each other's company. On Saturday, Steven made a delicious homemade cheesecake - from scratch! I love having such a talented and sweet husband!

I drew this cheerful picture in Photoshop yesterday and today. I thought I would share it with you. It is my new desktop background. With all this freezing cold weather, I needed something bright and warm. :)

How Are We Doing?

Image
Steven has been working at a contract job for Richmond Homes, helping with their year end audit and various reports. It was supposed to be just for the month of January, but he has been given a few extra things to work on, so the job has lasted an extra week and he didn't finish what he was working on Friday, so he returned to work today. Last Wednesday he interviewed for another contract job with a company called GHX (... It stands for Global Health Exchange or something like that...). They called him back that same afternoon to offer him the job. This one starts next Monday (the 19th), and is supposed to last three or four months while someone is on maternity leave. While we would prefer a permanent job with benefits, the contract jobs are a great help. Steven interviewed for a permanent job with Ball Corporation last month, and he thought the interview went really well, but he hasn't heard back from them since. Since we only have the one car and Steven takes it to work, I
