What do you do?

Image
What do you do when the weather grows cold- when the grass is covered with blankets of snow and the streets with patches of ice? When to go outside means to see your breath but lose sense in your fingers and toes? There are some who say, "Yay!" and run out to play with their coats, hats, mittens and gloves. They search out their sleds and carrots for noses for snowmen, build forts, and snow angels. I hate to drive on icy, slick roads, not knowing if I'll stop or I'll go. I'd rather stay inside, read books and drink cocoa, wrapped in a warm fuzzy blanket. Does that make me strange? Like a grinch or a Scrooge? I hope not. I don't mean to be. I'd just rather be warm, toasty and comfy, and I really don't like to freeze!

Pumpkin Carving

The golden gourd glowed. His great, goofy grin greeted  greedy gamboling goblins. (Try saying that five times fast!)

One of Those Days

There is laundry to be washed,      clutter on the floor,           and trash to be taken out. There are Easter dresses in progress,       the fabric all cut out,           just waiting to be sewn. But there is snow on the ground outside,      and all I feel like doing           is curling up on the couch               with a good book.

Who Would You Be?

Image
If you chose anybody from tale, book or movie,  to trade places and lives for a while,  Who would you choose? What would you do? Which character best fits your style?  Would you like to have tea with Anne-with-an-e?  Or ride on a raft with Huck Finn?  Would you like to consort with Darcy or Wart?  Or Pocahontas or Abraham Lincoln?   Would you go to school to learn how to rule, To become a wizard, or spy?  Or maybe a ranger, or viking in danger, An inventor or wise private eye? Would you put up a fight to become a great knight? Or would you rather find pirates and treasure? Would you ride a big horse as a matter of course, Or find some sweet child to nurture? Would you climb up a mountain to drink from a fountain  that promised you eternal youth? Would you follow a star or drive in a car As you sought for an egg or a tooth? You could be a hobbit, fairy, elf, or rabbit, Or would you rathe...

Haiku Day

Some Haiku to describe my day yesterday: Dark shadows chase me. I run, hide, full of terror then wake exhausted.      A brief flash of white,      A plummeting shooting star.      It begins to snow.           Sequins on my sleeve:           Glimmering, shining crystals           Of fresh fallen snow. Surrounded by friends studying ancient scripture: Institute heaven.      Dishes and laundry,      Blog, clutter, index and clean.      Then Doctor Who time. Kids arrive from school. The homework battle begins. How long till summer?      Pale white and rounded      islands rising from the sea:      toes in the bathtub.      ...

Snacking Rules

It's ten-o-clock in the morning, or three in the afternoon. Your belly starts vibrating - it will need some food very soon. You search the refrigerator. What's quick and easy to eat? What is the most convenient, most tasty and delicious treat? Strawberries, oranges or peaches, cookies or crackers or chips, toast or raisins or popcorn or veggies cut up, served with dips? Pretend you need to be sneaky, to hide so no one will know. Remove all trace of snacking. Allow no evidence to show. Never open a new package. Never finish something off. Avoid foods that are messy or that make you sneeze, burp or cough. Don't leave any dirty dishes for others to discover. Seal up bags, jars and boxes. Remember to close the cupboard. Clean up any crumbs or messes on floor or chair or table. Don't even think of eating food with someone else's label. Chew your food very quietly - no crunches, munches or slurps. Don't create smelly odors in microwaves, ovens o...

Haikus by John

The Haiku  First, five syllables. Second, seven syllables. Third is five again. Awesome Haiku The Awesome Haiku by John William Hiatt This was really cool! Josh's Haiku This was written by: Joshua Isaac Hiatt. Yum, Yum, Eat him up! (John came up with all three of these, contrary to what the third one might say. However, the last line of the third one is something that Josh has been saying a lot lately.)

I hate getting colds - face becomes leaky faucet; my head will explode. The back of my throat is scratchy as sandpaper. My neck has a rash. Heaven sent water - soothe my throat, thin the mucous, let me breathe again. Does anyone else tend to get rashes whenever they get a cold?
