The End of School and the Beginning of Summer
Summer is here in all its glory. The last few days of school were a whirl wind of parties, celebrations, and awards ceremonies. These were followed by my birthday and Memorial Day, a week of summer vacation, and then this past week busy with John's cub scout day camp. I wonder if the entire summer is going to pass this quickly!
On the next to last day of school, Peter had a Kindergarten celebration. He sang some songs and they did a play with puppets that was really cute. After school let out, John's teacher gave us a sofa that she has had in her classroom all year that she no longer wanted.
My birthday was an enjoyable and relaxing day. We went to church and Steven made the meals and let me sit back and relax all day.
The following day was Memorial Day and my sisters Heather and April and their families were able to come up and join us for fun games and a barbecue.
Summer activities so far have included swimming, summer home school (Reading, writing, math games, and we're creating a family tree on our dining room wall!), trips to the library, lemonade stands (Hannah has made over $80 selling lemonade so far! She tells me they will use the profits to help an Eagle Scout with his project to send supplies to soldiers in Afghanistan), and this past week was cub scout day camp.
Only two boys from our ward went to the Day Camp, but since we needed to have at least one adult there every day, Steven and I traded off with the parents of the other boy, his parents going on Monday and Tuesday, Steven on Wednesday, Me on Thursday and Friday morning, and the other boy's mother on Friday afternoon. The boys played lots of games and sports, made crafts, learned scouting skills and learned about nature and even got to shoot arrows and BB Guns. They also made rockets which were shot off on Friday. John's rocket's parachute didn't open, so when he found it later, his rocket was shaped like an L from it's impact with the ground. It looked kind of cool.
Yesterday afternoon, Steven took me to get my birthday/anniversary present. He wouldn't tell me what it was. He ended up taking me to a huge book sale that the Denver Public Library has each year. We went last year and got a ton of really good books. So when I returned home from Day Camp yesterday, we left Hannah to watch Joshua and Peter, and the two of us went down town to see what good books we could find. We didn't find as many books this year as last year, but it was still fun to rummage through all the books, and have that time with Steven (without kids). We should do things like that more often.
