Updates on Projects

So I'm a slacker and let weeks go by without posting. I'm still here. Here is some of what we've been doing: In the process of fixing up our house, we completed step one: scraping the popcorn off the ceilings... and this included three bedrooms, a long hallway, the living room and dining room. Steven did most of the work (the master bedroom, the boys' room, the hallway, entry, the dining room, some of the living room), but Hannah and I both scraped her bedroom, and I did most of the living room.  Once all the ceilings were done, the fun part began - painting! We started painting the boys' room, which now sports a flat white ceiling and beautiful blue walls. I hung some curtains, and now the room looks nice and cozy. Boys room before the makeover: plain white walls, no curtains, blinds so ragged and broken we never used them. Boys room after the makeover: blue walls and curtains. Since I took the picture I hung pictures on the walls. I think it looks grea...

Moving On, But not moving yet

The house we saw and loved and which was the inspiration for putting our condo on the market is under contract. Just not to us. We thought we had everything figured out. My parents offered to loan us the money for the new house, which meant that we could rent our condo if it didn't sell, and so we decided to go ahead and put an offer on the house. We waited a day or two for her to call, and then decided we would go ahead and call the agent who held the listing for the house ourselves. By the time we got in contact with her, she informed us that the house was just barely out of negotiations with someone else. The house was under contract. That was last week Monday. I cried. Since then we've been searching the real estate listings online, but haven't found anything that even comes close to that beautiful house. Our options are severely limited by the fact tha...

Making Dreams Come True

For a while now Steven and I have been thinking of moving. Our three bedroom condo has served us well for the last five years, but it is starting to feel a bit tight, and every night that we lay awake listening to our neighbor bang around in his kitchen on the other side of the wall from our bedroom we dream of having a home where we own all four walls. It was one of those things we thought about, but didn't do much to promote. A few weeks ago (Tuesday, April 22, 2008) I was looking around online and did a search to find out how many four bedroom, three bedroom homes were for sale within our ward boundaries and in a price range of less than $250k. I found four, although at least three of those were split level, and Steven and I don't like the idea of opening the front door to stairs. I mentioned my search to Steven coming home from church the next Sunday, and the following week he did his own search and on Thursday, May 1st he was looking online and came across a house that cap...
