The Year in Review: Peter in 2022

Peter loves drama, and he's good at it too. This year he has been in production after production, developing his talents.

In March he played the munchkin mayor in The Wizard of Oz. (See here for my blog on that).

In April he played a lead role in the one act play Abra Cadaver. (Here's my blog on that.)

At the end of his Junior year in high school, he was elected as co-president of the drama club and was granted stewardship of the traditional Kermit the Frog doll for acting. (There are four stuffed frogs that are passed from a graduating drama student to the drama student that student feels best exemplifies that role. Josh received the "Kermie" for tech while he was in high school. Other Kermies are passed for costumes and light/sound.)

In July he performed in the community theater production of The Servant of Two Masters. (Blog post)

In October, Peter performed as the narrator in the high school production of Puffs: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic. (Remarkably similar to Harry Potter, but from a different house's point of view.)

In November, the high school drama department held a silent auction to earn money for *ThesCon. At the auction, a few students were able to perform the pieces they would be performing at the upcoming event. Here are Peter's monologues: (sorry about the poor filming...)

Earlier this month Peter attended Thes Con in downtown Denver, received very good scores ("excellent" over all, but across both judges got a "superior" in 4 out of the 5 things they were grading on) for his monologues, and learned a lot from the classes he took. It sounds like he had a blast!

(*"THESPIAN CONFERENCEThe Colorado Thespian Conference, or Thes Con, for short, is an  annual gathering where students from all areas of Colorado come together to learn and compete in the theater. Spanning over 3 days, students are able to participate in educational workshops, show off their talent, and see other students perform in plays and musicals or competitions.")

Last night we had our ward Christmas party, for which Peter was asked to prepare a skit for the program. Peter wrote the script and scrounged costumes and he, John and some of the other youth in the ward performed it. I didn't film it, but you can read the script.

Auditions have been held for the Spring Musical, Freaky Friday, and Peter has chosen to be an assistant director for the upcoming show which will be performed the first weekend in March.

On an unrelated note...

Peter got his driver's license this month. The day that he was supposed to take his behind the wheel driving test it snowed in the morning. Thankfully his appointment wasn't until the afternoon and by then it had stopped snowing and the roads had had a chance to dry out a bit. (They told him before his test that if the tires slid, skid or spun at all it was an automatic fail!) Anyway, Peter passed with flying colors (he only had one point taken off for neglecting to check his rear view mirror after making a turn.) He still doesn't enjoy driving, and although he has had his license for a week and a half, he has only driven by himself twice. (Three times if you count going there and back as separate times.)

At church, Peter has served as the first assistant in his priests quorum and was recently called to be a ward chorister, a calling which he excels at.
