40?
Forty years have passed
Since I came into this world?
No, I'm not that old!
Seriously, I'm too young to be forty. My stomach still does flip flops when I have to pick up the phone to make a call. I still haven't figured out what I want to be when I grow up. I'd rather play a game or read a book or watch a movie or do just about anything, than go to work. I still like to color, for heaven's sake!
There is no possible way that I could be forty. Forty-year-olds are supposed to be mature and responsible. They should know what they are doing and where they're going and have confidence in themselves. I sure don't.
But my birthday cake this year had four candles on it, one for each decade I've been alive. (Can you imagine the huge fire there would have been if they'd tried to cram forty candles on one small ice cream cake?) According to my birth certificate and my driver's license, it is true. (2015-1975=40)
What have I done in those forty years?
- Learned to walk, talk, read, write, sew, knit, crochet, play piano, draw, and maybe some other things.
- Graduated from elementary school, middle school, high school, and college.
- Served a mission in Brazil.
- Got married and had four children. (the oldest of which will be 16 years old in about 3 months... no way can I be old enough to have a 16-year-old!)
- Worked as a babysitter, house sitter, maid, waitress/hostess, color copier, greeting card stocker, survey taker, seamstress, crocheter.
- I have a drivers license and an amateur radio license.
- I've served at church as a visiting teacher, visiting teaching supervisor, pianist (for relief society and primary), teacher (Relief society, primary, and gospel doctrine), music leader (in sacrament meeting, relief society and primary), primary president, cub scout leader. organist, and provident living specialist.
- Visited or lived in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois. (And the airports in Orlando, Florida and Atlanta, Georgia)
What more will I do in the next forty years?
