Heroic Winter Adventures
When we last saw our heroes, they were being attacked by the evil Winter Cold, slowly turning to ice in subfreezing temperatures which had spread throughout the state of Colorado and other parts of the nation.
Each of our heroes battled the cold in a different way:
Steven and our greatest hero were both hit with colds - complete with lethargy, stuffy nose, headaches, and coughs. Steven took a sick day off work on Friday to rest and recover in our heroes' hideout, and spent Saturday resting at home as well.
Hannah had an orchestra festival on Saturday. Our greatest hero battled the elements to drive through thickening snow and frigid temperatures to get Hannah to and from a final rehearsal that morning, then returned in the afternoon to join the crowds for an inspiring performance. Over 500 students from twelve middle and high schools participated in the event. Hannah, as part of the High School Symphonic Orchestra, wielded her viola in "The Barber of Seville", "Aspire", and "Rue de Royal", then joined the other orchestras in the finale, "The Wild Western Frontier". The orchestras triumphed, and we returned home victorious.
Unfortunately, John was not as victorious in his battle against the cold. Due to a recent growth spurt, he finds himself without a snow coat that fits him well. (By which I mean the sleeves are halfway to his elbows.) Despite a natural insensitivity to cold, and an inclination to avoid wearing coats and jackets, due to the extreme bitterness of the cold this season he has found himself desiring new coat. Despite searching at two stores on Friday, our greatest hero failed to find a snow coat of a correct size, color and style, and due to utter exhaustion from a piercing headache as well as the stress of braving the dire elements in order to get Hannah where she needed to go, our good heroine failed to have the energy to even attempt a search on Saturday. Meanwhile, John is borrowing Joshua's coat, while Joshua wears a leather jacket.
Some time ago, Joshua invited a friend from school to come over to play at our home. A couple Saturdays ago an invitation was extended, but due to other events, it was determined that this Saturday would work out the best. Josh provided his friend with a written invitation, directions to our home, and our phone number, and Saturday the house was straightened with the expectation of company, but the friend never showed up. (Our greatest hero is wondering if the boys' plans were ever discussed and/or cleared with the friend's parents?)
Our youngest hero, Peter, was hit by a dart by the enemy, as evidenced when he threw up in the car on the way home from church yesterday. (Luckily, our greatest hero was able to find an empty cup in the car in time to get it to Peter so he could throw up into it, thus saving the car from a mess.) The poor boy spent much of the afternoon sleeping, and before bedtime, asked for a blessing. The blessing was received, and our young hero appears to have made a full recovery this morning.
But the questions linger: Who else will be hit with the stomach flu? Will Steven and our greatest hero ever get over their colds? Will John get a coat that actually fits him? Will Joshua's friend ever be able to come over to play? Return soon to find out!
