The Daily Mystery

Every weekday morning and afternoon of the past week has held a mystery. What changes will have happened at the park down the street when we walk past today?

Last Wednesday, a bright yellow digger and bulldozer sat on the sidewalk within the enclosure.
On Thursday, a man was using a ditch witch to carve a ditch around all the edges of the area in the park where work is to be done. The ditch was then filled with what appears to be a roll of straw, which had been staked down. There were also bright orange barriers erected in various parts of the park.
On Sunday, Steven and I were enjoying the warm sunshine and took a stroll through the park. To my surprise, even though it was Sunday there were people working. While we didn't get a close look, it appeared that they had taken out a tree and were grinding down the stump.

Monday morning, bright and early, the digger was at work on the hill, gobbling up huge chunks of earth and depositing them in a pile where the bulldozer could push it into a pile. Strangely, although the pile of earth that had been removed grew over the next couple days, the size of the hill didn't appear to diminish noticeably.
Yesterday, the main focus of the men seems to have been digging this trench. They didn't use the ditch witch for this one - it leads from an electrical box to the fuse/electrical box on the side of the portable office, and the streamers blocking it off warn of a buried electrical line. They have dug it out with shovels, and it doesn't appear to have been easy, especially since the ground around here is naturally hard, and there were two nearby trees with roots in the way. By this afternoon, the trench appeared to be over a foot deep for most of the length.
Besides the things I took pictures of, in the last day or two they've also marked the locations of the irrigation sprinklers, and began disturbing the earth in another area of the park - though whether they were digging down or just filling in with earth they removed from the hill, I couldn't tell.

It is fun to watch the changes from day to day, and wonder what they will do next!
