Girls Camp 2014

Tuesday morning, Hannah stuffed her stuff into the back of a car and then climbed in herself and disappeared. She returned Friday morning with blue hands, and said that she had fun. What was she doing all that time? That is the BIG QUESTION!

Girls Camp 2014

Me: So, Hannah, what was the first thing you did when you got to girls camp?
Hannah: Um, that depends on where you say that girls camp started because we got to the main, like, area place and then we got lost, cuz the place is really big and complicated and stuff. But the first thing we actually did was eat lunch. Wait, no never mind, it was kind of just lay down because we ate lunch in the car, but the other girls didn't, I guess, so we had to lay down and wait for them.

Me: So what did you do after lunch?
Hannah: We played red rover and then, um-
Peter: How do you play red rover?
Hannah: So, like, you have two lines of peoples, and they say, "red rover, red rover, send the potatoes all over", and then if your name is potato then you try to run over and get through the line. And if you get through the line then you get to take another person back to your real line, and then whoever has the most people at the end then they win!

Me: So, back to what you did after lunch...
Hannah: We were sorted into, like, groups, and then we got this beach ball, and then wrote a bunch of questions on it, and then we threw it around, and whichever one your thumb was on when you caught it, you had to answer.

Me: So, what questions did you get to answer?
Hanah:  I don't know, can you spell my name right?

Me: Sorry. Anyway, the questions?
hannah: and capitalize it?

Me: No.
Hannah: Anyway, it was, like, what was your favorite color, or what do you want to be when you grow up, and what music do you like to listen to and blah, blah, blah, stuff like that.

Me: Did anyone have any interesting answers?
Hannah: No, but I could make some up if you want.

Me: So what did you do after you played with the beach ball?
Hannah: Then we made a team cheer and then we had to like do it for all the other groups, and then we got back in the car and got lost again.

(Mom: What was your team cheer?
Hannah: So ths YCLs' nicknames, the one was Jelly Beans and the other was Red Hot, so we stuck them together and we were the Red Hot Jelly Beans and then we went "sizzle, sizzle, sizzle.")

Me: You got lost again?
Hannah: Yeah. Cuz we were trying to find the campground, like, the real camping area, and we couldn't find it.

Me: I take it you found it eventually?
Hannah: No, we just found a ditch and put our sleeping bags there.... No, we found it. Anyway, and then we probably did some stuff, but I can't remember. Yeah, that's it, the end.

Me: So what did you have for dinner that night?
Hannah: Tortilla chips and mango salsa.
Me: That's all?
Hannah: They had a big ol', like, buffet thingamajigee, but I didn't like any of the stuff they had. They had, like, meat and beans and cheese and stuff.

Me: And after dinner?
Hannah: Ummmmmm, then we got all the left overs and put them in our tent, and got those big old wafting boards and waved them for the bears, saying, "Here, beary, beary, bear." I don't remember, actually I think we worked on our skits - wait, we were supposed to, but we didn't.

Me: Did you do anything else that night?
Hannah: Uh, tried to go to sleep, and early the next morning, I actually fell asleep, cuz, like, the other girls were rolling around and pretending to talk in their sleep, and telling secrets in their sleep and stuff. And then once they finally got quiet, the people from a couple campsites down started talking really loud and laughing and talking and stuff. Yep.

Me: So, what did you do the next morning?
Hannah: I woke up. And enjoyed the quiet. And finished reading my scriptures, which I couldn't do last night because it was too loud, and it was too dark too. And my light was dying. And stuff. Yep.

Me: Breakfast?
Hannah: Food. Oh, it was, like, bagels, and probably fruit too, and, like, cream cheese or sour cream or something weird like that. I think that's it, I'm probably missing something though.

Me: What activities did you do that day?
Hannah: So, we started out with free time, and we went down to the main building and went rollerskating. And then after that, we um, did something... uh, it was something really fun, too, but it wasn't like the funnest thing we did. Oh wait, no, no, we had to go back and help with lunch. Yeah. And we, like, cleaned potatoes and searched for the mustard. We didn't find the mustard until the next day at lunch, then I guess somebody found it, but it wasn't me. Yep. And then, it was, like, the, um, zip lining and high ropes course and that stuff, and then there was this guy there, and he was singing, and we asked him if he took requests because he was just kinda singing to himself, and then we asked him what his favorite musical was, and he was in Grease as a senior, but he also likes Les Miz, and we asked him to sing the Stars song and he did. He was singing that and it was, like, really cool. Yeah, and then, um, and, like, the zip line was kinda, like, it was just this big ol' pole with, like, little hooks that you could hang onto, or you had to hold onto them if you wanted to climb up. And then you stood on this little platform, and this dude messed with your hookedy-doop thingies on the harness thingy, and then he told you to jump and then eventually you jumped and went screaming part way down and it was fun. Anyway, so the scary part was climbing and then, like, jumping off, like, on the zipline it wasn't so bad cuz it would feel, like, all strong and stuff. And then I was going to do the high ropes course, but there was lightening and so we had to stop, like, an hour early and hardly got to do anything because the lines were moving really slow, and then we had to stop. And then we hung out at camp for a bit, and then we went horseback riding, because apparently horses can't get struck by lightening, because they let us do that, despite the fact that it was lighteningy and it was raining for a little bit.

Me: So did you ride horses until dinnertime?
Hannah: No, uh, we went the whole, like, way, which was, like, an hour, and then we got lost again. (In the car, not on the horses) Cuz we were looking for archery but it was on this rinky-dink little road and we took, like, a wrong turn or something, and we ended up going on this real gravely not-meant-for-real-cars road that led to a construction site. Eventually we turned around and asked for directions at this library place, and then we found it. Yep.

Me: So you did archery next?
Hannah: Erher. Yep. And then it's actually kind of fun, I'm kinda good at it, and then someone brought us this big ol' bag with fruit snacks and candy and chocolate and crackerjack. And then we went back and, like, had dinner. Yep.

Me: What was for dinner?
Hannah: This really good, like, chicken stuff. It was, like, chicken wings, but it was, like, good chicken wings, not, like, greasy. It was good. Yup.

Me: What did you do after dinner?
Hannah: Then we actually worked on our skits cuz we were actually preforming them that evening, and then we performed them and ours was the best.

Me: What was your skit?
Hannah: It was about this girl who wanted a date cuz she'd been 16 for, like, a full hour, so she did this speed dating thing, so she met all these weird guys, and it was, like, mission impossible to find the right guy cuz the theme of the camp was Mission Possible. And then at the end she found the right guy, and then it was all happy and then throughout the skit, after they went on the guys would turn into cats, so at the end she had, like, nine or ten cats. And then we did the little song, like, "meow meow meow" the Mission Impossible theme. And we were conducted by this little laser pointer.

Me: That sounds like a lot of fun! Anything else that day?
Hannah: Um, a dude spoke about stuff. And then we went to bed, and it wasn't nearly so bad that night. We actually went to bed that night at 11, cuz they were, like, tired, probably.

Me: So what did you do the next morning?
Hannah: Woke up. Well, that's what we usually do in the morning - at camp at least.

Me: Then what?
Hannah: We had breakfast. It was bagels again.

Me: What did you do that day?
Hannah: A bunch of cool weird stuff and things.

Me: Can you be any more specific?
Hannah: Yup.

Me: *evil look*
Hannah: Right. So.... Right.... We went and did... stuff.... for example..... we did... well, first we did.... um... Oh, oh yeah, we went on a hike. And the ground was literally like this (shows a 45 degree angle with arm) part of the time, and it was, like, really hard, and then we got up to the first peak place, and then they said, "Who wants to go to the second peak?", and I said, "Haha, no."(Some of the other girls went up, or at least tried to, but then they gave up about half way because it was too intense, too scary, or too, like, hard, and then they started running down the mountain. They passed us cuz we were going really slow.) And then we went back down, and only slipped once on the rockety sandy floobedy doop hill... thing... mountain. Yep. Then we went back to lunch and then we went canooing, despite the fact that the place where we went on the hike and the place where we went canooing were five feet apart, but we were tired and hungry. Yeah. And then we went rock climbing, except there was lightening or stormyness or something so we had to go on the inside rock climbing wall things, and there was a dude who tied a noose for us to show off his knot skills.  Right, so then was more free time, and then I went to the craft cabin and tie-died a shirt and turned my hands blue. Then we went back and had pulled pork, and specialicious Russell pulled pork, so eet vas much guten.

Me: S,o what did you do after dinner?
Hannah: Um, that was the night that we stayed at our campsite and just kinda talked between us instead of going up to the fireside because we're antisocial like that until they yelled at us and we got there right as it ended. And then, oh, and then I think that was the night before actually, but we went snipe hunting.

Me: How did that work out for you?
Hannah: It was so funny! And, like, at the end girls were screaming and crying and the YCLs walked away and said, "I hope you liked your snipe hunting" and just abandoned us and stuff.

Me: Anything else?
Hannah: So the last night, Thursday, was the testimony meeting and that went well, and we roasted marshmallows, and then some of the girls left to go to Idahoo or just plain home. And then we went to bed. At least, we did. but, like, some of the other people, cuz there was no curfew, for us, at least, so they stayed up all night, or at least they said they would. I didn't see them the next morning to ask them so I just assume they did. But they said they would the night before. Some of them.

Me: So next morning?
Hannah: We had the morningside thingamajigee where they handed out awards, like "you're the most whatever" and stuff.  And then we had breakfast and then we got all our junk out of the tent and some of the girls had a whole, whole, lot of junk and so that took a while. And then we took down the tent and then I ran around to get all my stuff that was all over the place, like my water bottle which was in someone's car, cuz she wouldn't let me back into her car because my hands were all blue. Yep. And then we left and drove home by way of a gas station to get sodas and candy that we had missed out on all week. Yup. And then we went home. I think that's it. Yep.

Me. Thank you for sharing!
