Is it Time for an Update?
Today the temperatures are in the mid 70s and the sky is blue and gorgeous. The tulips that I separated and transplanted last autumn are finally blooming. I'm looking forward to summer!
Saturday night we had our ward pinewood derby. Steven was the only one who made a car this year. We didn't bring the camera to the derby this year, so I don't have pictures of it actually racing, and he wasn't quite finished with it - he still wants to paint it. I'll post pictures of the car when he does complete it. He received an award for best design.
Steven is still working his contract job at GHX, and while he is willing to stay there until the lady comes back from maternity leave (probably mid-June), he really doesn't want to work there permanently, so he is still searching for a permanent job that will be a good fit. At the moment, he is thinking that he would like to go back to Richmond Homes, where he was working in January.
Nothing much changes for me. I still don't have a car during the day, so I get rides to Institute (when it hasn't been cancelled due to snow as it has been the last three weeks in a row), and sit around the house the rest of the school day. I walk to the school twice a day to drop off and pick up the boys, and run errands and do Webelos and visiting teaching, etc. in the evenings. I've been doing a lot of indexing lately, and I'm working on knitting a sweater. You may have noticed that I'm posting blogs more often than I used to.
The kids have about four more weeks of school before summer vacation. For some, that means more projects are coming due. Hannah has a roller coaster project she is working on for her science class. She and Steven are building a carousel, and I have to say that I am very grateful that Steven has some technical expertise, because I don't think I would know where to start. Between the two of them, they have figured out a design so the animals should go up and down as it turns. It will be interesting to watch it all come together.
John continues to read through books like crazy. He plays with LEGOs and wants another set of LEGO gears for his birthday in a few months. He is planning to run in the Bolder Boulder 10K on Memorial Day.
I recently attended a meeting with Joshua's classroom teacher, a speech therapist, a learning specialist, the school psychologist and an assistant principal to discuss his educational needs. He is doing well generally, in fact he has been recommended for GT testing, but it has been determined that he has a speech impairment - a difficulty pronouncing the "r" sound. It is affecting his ability to communicate, so he will be meeting on a regular basis with the speech therapist until the issue is resolved.
Peter is anxiously awaiting his 8th birthday. For the past few months, he has been joining Steven and me with our Webelos scouts, but I think he would enjoy being with cub scouts closer to his own age. His baptism is currently scheduled for the first Saturday in July, at 10am at the Westminster Stake Center at 13370 Lowell Blvd.
We're doing well, and enjoying life.
